Okay but ’no one loves the light like the blind man’ is such a raw and symbolic line and like. Is R already blind so he desperately searches for the light because even though he won’t be able to see it and longs for it he’d still love the warmth? Is he mad because the only thing he loves the most is something he can’t possibly look at? Is it some sort of tragic dynamic where the only thing he loves is something he’s been denied by his nature? Is he voluntarily blinding himself with reluctance and alcohol to better tolerate the light because his eyes are so used to see dark and it would be too much? Because looking right at it would be like staring into the sun and then not being able to see anything else like before? Does he blind himself to still be able to stand close to the light without being burned by it? In this essay I will

And AGAIN, and I could keep going forever, does he love the light because it’s what defines him and shapes him by being his opposite? And I’m referring to R ‘becoming somebody again’ by Enjolras’ side - does he love him because the darkness’ only meaning is the absence of light and it can’t be defined if not in relation to its opposite? everything the light is makes sense of everything it’s not and gives it a name oh my god I need to stop

please stop me if i’m ruining your beautiful essay but to me it’s almost like he can’t stop looking? he’s so miserable and in pain and he can’t help admiring the sun because it’s beautiful and warm and he just feels cold and numb?

#i love the line abt the toad and the bird the most#its like#why does the toad look to the sky? to see the bird fly#and hes maybe jealous of e but just so admiring of him as well#he wishes he had e’s courage and strength and he admires that?#and all he can do is look up at him#and then again hugo’s thing with beauty?#r is sad which makes him ugly (not literally but like hes kind of a mess and he cant find the energy or smth like that)#so hugo compares him to the toad looking upwards at e#and e is beautiful and kind and like a bird cause like hes noble
